Evening assault on Kautikari village forces residents to flee as primary and secondary schools are razed; casualty figures remain unclear
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents and fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a fresh attack on Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday evening, setting key community schools ablaze.
The attackers reportedly stormed the village around 7 p.m., igniting both the primary school and the day secondary school, and sending terrified residents fleeing into nearby bushes to escape the violence.
A security operative from the area, currently stationed in Maiduguri, confirmed the incident, describing the situation as chaotic and ongoing at the time of contact.
“I can confirm that Kautikari is under attack. People are running for safety, and both the primary and secondary schools have been set on fire,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no confirmed information on casualties or the extent of damage beyond the destruction of the schools.
Kautikari, located in the troubled Chibok axis, has faced repeated assaults by insurgent groups in recent years, underscoring persistent security challenges in the region.
Attempts to reach the Borno State Police Command for official confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls to the spokesperson, ASP Kenneth Daso, went unanswered.
