Armed gunmen on over 40 motorcycles storm Iluke Bunu school community, triggering deadly shootout as police, soldiers, and vigilantes repel attack

Armed bandits on Wednesday morning launched a violent assault on Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving at least three people dead, including a school vice principal, a six-year-old child, and an elderly resident.

The attackers, said to be heavily armed and moving on about 40 motorcycles, reportedly stormed the community around 10:00 a.m. with suspected plans to abduct students and other residents, plunging the area into panic and mourning.

According to the Kogi State Police Command, officers from the Kabba “A” Division quickly mobilised alongside tactical units, the Police Mobile Force, military personnel, and local vigilantes after receiving distress calls.

A fierce gun duel ensued, forcing the attackers to retreat into nearby forests. Authorities confirmed that one of the assailants was neutralised during the exchange of fire, while a member of the joint security team sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The police also stated that, based on preliminary assessments, there is no confirmed evidence that a mass abduction was successfully carried out, although investigations
