Manchester United captain earns top honour from The Athletic FC journalists following a standout individual season despite club inconsistency

Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season, capping a remarkable individual campaign in which the Manchester United captain dominated key attacking statistics across the division.

The Portuguese midfielder earned the accolade following a vote by journalists from The Athletic FC, recognition that underscores his influence despite an inconsistent season for Manchester United.

Fernandes stood head and shoulders above his peers in creativity, finishing the campaign with a league-high 132 chances created. Of those, 95 came from open play, further highlighting his ability to unlock defenses without reliance on set pieces.

He also led the Premier League in big chances created, registering 32 overall and 26 from open play, while topping the assist chart with 20. His vision and passing precision were equally evident in his 15 completed through balls — another league-best figure.

Throughout the season, Fernandes remained a central figure in United’s attacking play, consistently delivering goals, assists, and leadership during difficult stretches for the club.
