The former United defender describes his old club as toothless in attack after Nico Paz’s brace helps Cesc Fàbregas’ side secure a convincing victory.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has criticised his former club following their disappointing 4-1 defeat to Italian side Como in a UEFA Champions League encounter at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
Ferdinand questioned United’s attacking threat and work rate after Michael Carrick’s side struggled against Cesc Fàbregas’ team.
Como dominated the contest, with Nico Paz scoring twice, while Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón also found the net to seal a commanding victory.
Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation goal for United, but his effort did little to change the outcome as the English side suffered a heavy defeat.
Reacting to the performance in a post on X, Ferdinand described United as toothless in attack and criticized the team’s lack of energy, while giving credit to Fàbregas and his players for their display.
“We were toothless in attack, no running power in the team,” he wrote.
The defeat will raise further questions about United’s performance and their ability to compete against well organised opposition.
Como, under Fàbregas, capitalised on United’s weaknesses to produce an emphatic result, while the visitors struggled to make a meaningful impact in attack.
United must now turn their attention to their next fixture against Bournemouth in the Premier League at Old Trafford this weekend. Carrick’s side will be looking to respond with a stronger performance after the setback in Italy.
