Suspect allegedly mutilated teenager’s body and attempted to remove her unborn child; police vow prosecution as investigation continues.
A 40-year-old man, Samson Ekata, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command over the alleged murder of his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The disturbing incident came to light on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, when the state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, paraded Ekata alongside other suspects arrested in connection with various crimes across Edo State.
According to a report by Daily Post, the police commissioner disclosed that the teenage victim had reportedly lived with Ekata for about a year before she was killed.
Investigators allege that the suspect murdered the young woman and mutilated her body, including severing one of her breasts and attempting to remove her unborn child.
The gruesome circumstances surrounding the killing have raised serious concerns, particularly given the victim’s age and pregnancy.
Suspect Admits Killing Girlfriend
During an interaction with journalists, Ekata reportedly admitted killing his girlfriend but insisted that it was the first time he had taken another person’s life.
In his account, the suspect attributed his actions to what he described as spiritual influences, claiming that he heard voices instructing him to kill the pregnant teenager.
He reportedly told journalists that he initially resisted the alleged command because the woman was pregnant.
However, Ekata claimed that the instruction returned in a dream about two weeks later and that he eventually acted on it.
He further alleged that the same influence prompted him to remove the victim’s breast after her death.
The suspect also reportedly disclosed that he transported the woman’s body in a Toyota Corolla before abandoning it by the roadside.
Although he admitted to the killing, Ekata denied any involvement in other murders, maintaining that he had never killed anyone before the incident.
His claims of spiritual influence have not been independently established and remain subject to investigation. The circumstances surrounding the killing will ultimately be examined through the appropriate legal process.
Police Condemn Killing, Promise Prosecution
Commissioner Daaor described the incident as horrific and expressed sadness over the death of the young woman.
He assured the public that the suspect would face the full weight of the law, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining security across the state.
The police chief also commended members of the community whose assistance reportedly contributed to Ekata’s arrest.
He urged residents to provide credible information about suspected criminal activities, stressing that cooperation between communities and security agencies was essential to preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.
CP Warns Parents, Urges Vigilance
Beyond the investigation, Daaor called on parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children’s safety, particularly that of young girls, warning that vulnerable young people could be exposed to sexual predators and other dangerous individuals.
He also urged young women to exercise caution in their relationships and take their personal safety seriously.
The command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents and encouraged stronger collaboration between the public and law enforcement agencies.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and examine the suspect’s account of the events leading to the alleged murder.
The case has once again highlighted concerns about violence against women and girls, as well as the importance of ensuring that allegations of serious crimes are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
