Authorities warn of nationwide crackdown, with offenders facing up to two years in jail and $8,000 fine for overstaying visas
The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued a final warning to African nationals residing in the country to leave before May 31, 2026, or face arrest and prosecution under stricter immigration enforcement measures.
In a statement released by the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, Cambodian authorities said the directive applies to citizens of several African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, and others currently living in the country.
According to the statement, all affected foreign nationals who have already settled outstanding immigration fines must exit Cambodia on or before the stated deadline. The government made it clear that no further extensions will be granted.
Authorities warned that from June 1, 2026, any foreign national found entering or remaining in Cambodia unlawfully will be subject to immediate arrest, whether at airports, border points, or within any part of the country.
Offenders risk facing up to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of $8,000 before they are permitted to leave the country.
The statement further disclosed that Cambodian police will launch a nationwide operation beginning June 1 to track down and apprehend foreigners who are hiding or have overstayed their visas. Those arrested will be handed over to immigration officials for prosecution in accordance with Cambodian law.
Reaffirming its stance, the Royal Government stressed that it will not tolerate violations of its immigration regulations and urged all affected individuals to comply strictly with the directive to avoid severe legal consequences.
