Davido Calls Out Nigerian Celebrities Over Silence on Insecurity, Injustice

Afrobeats star admits entertainers, including himself, have “messed up” and must use their platforms to speak on killings, hardship, and governance failures.

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has challenged Nigerian entertainers to stop staying silent and begin speaking out on the country’s deepening crisis of insecurity and injustice.

In a candid post on X, the singer acknowledged that he and others in the entertainment industry have not done enough to address the worsening situation facing Nigerians. He stressed that the time has come for public figures to use their influence more responsibly.

“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey mess up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on,” Davido wrote.

He pointed out that celebrities are often criticised regardless of whether they speak out or remain quiet, but maintained that conscience should guide their actions in moments that demand courage.

Davido’s remarks have triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians backing his call and urging celebrities with massive followings to amplify conversations around critical national issues. These include rising insecurity, kidnappings, economic hardship, and concerns over governance.

His statement adds momentum to a growing public demand for entertainers, influencers, and other high-profile figures to go beyond music and social media trends, and play a more active role in shaping national discourse and advocating for change.
