Ex-APC Chieftain Timi Frank Alleges Tinubu May Relocate Nigeria’s Capital to Lagos by 2027

Ex-APC chieftain warns of “Lagos-centric agenda” ahead of 2027 elections, but no official plan or policy supports the claim

A former APC chieftain, Timi Frank, has stirred political controversy with claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be considering relocating Nigeria’s capital from Abuja to Lagos if he secures re-election in 2027.

Frank alleged that the supposed move is part of a broader “Lagos-centric agenda,” accusing the current administration of steadily concentrating political influence and economic investments in Lagos. He pointed to recent government appointments and infrastructure priorities as signs of what he described as an emerging imbalance.

Warning of potential consequences, Frank argued that any attempt to shift the nation’s seat of power could deepen regional tensions and further divide the country along political and ethnic lines.

However, there is no official confirmation from the Presidency or any indication of a government policy backing such a move. Abuja has remained Nigeria’s capital since 1991, and any relocation would require a significant constitutional and legislative process.

The allegation has nonetheless triggered debate within political circles, especially as early positioning for the 2027 general elections begins to take shape. Analysts maintain that the claim remains speculative and politically charged, with no concrete proposal or legislative action to support it.
