Super Eagles striker set to recover from hand injury in time for high-stakes clash against Fenerbahçe on April 26
Victor Osimhen, Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, is set to return from injury ahead of one of the biggest fixtures in Turkish football.
This was confirmed by Galatasaray reporter Ali Naci Küçük, who noted that the Nigerian forward is expected to be fit for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26.
Osimhen has been sidelined since sustaining a hand injury during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg defeat to Liverpool.
Following the injury, he underwent surgery at the Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul, with the club confirming that the procedure was successful.
The 27-year-old is expected to be out for approximately six weeks and will miss several matches in both the Turkish league and the domestic cup.
According to Küçük, Osimhen will not feature in Galatasaray’s upcoming fixtures against Trabzonspor, Göztepe, Kocaelispor, and Gençlerbirliği.
“Victor Osimhen will be on the field for the Fenerbahçe derby unless something unexpected happens,” Küçük said.
The 2023 African Player of the Year has also expressed confidence in his return, assuring fans that he will be back on the pitch and help the team in their title push.
Reports indicate that the former Napoli striker has been in fine form this season, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
He also recorded seven goals and three assists in 10 Champions League matches before Galatasaray’s elimination.
