Elite policy institute secured after early morning assault; troops launch manhunt as Plateau violence fears intensify

Gunmen launched a daring attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing two soldiers and a police officer in a fierce gun battle with security forces.

The assault, which unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, saw heavily armed attackers attempt to breach the tight security around the country’s premier leadership and policy institute. Security personnel on duty responded swiftly, engaging the assailants in a sustained exchange of gunfire that ultimately forced them to retreat.

Despite successfully repelling the attackers and preventing any infiltration of the facility, the confrontation claimed the lives of three security operatives. Reports indicate that several of the gunmen were also neutralised during the clash.

In the aftermath, security agencies launched a coordinated operation across Kuru and surrounding communities, combing the area to track down the fleeing suspects and forestall further attacks.

NIPSS management confirmed that calm has since been restored, with normal activities resuming at the institute. Officials reassured staff, course participants, and nearby residents that the situation is firmly under control.

The incident has once again spotlighted growing security concerns in Plateau State, where a wave of recent attacks has raised alarm. Authorities have vowed to apprehend those responsible, while reinforcing security presence around the strategic institution.
