Jigawa Hosts Massive State-Sponsored Wedding for 300 Orphans in Landmark Welfare Drive

Governor’s wife, Amina Namadi, leads initiative uniting 150 couples from all 27 LGAs to boost social inclusion and family stability

In a sweeping social welfare effort, the Jigawa State Government has facilitated a mass wedding for 300 less-privileged orphans, marking one of the largest initiatives of its kind in recent years.

The programme, spearheaded by the wife of the governor, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi, brought together 150 brides and 150 grooms selected from all 27 local government areas across the state. The event took place in Dutse, the state capital, drawing widespread attention for its scale and impact.

Designed as a structured intervention to support vulnerable groups, the initiative aims to give orphaned youths a stable foundation for family life while easing the burden on struggling households. Organisers say it reflects a broader commitment by the state government to strengthen social welfare systems and promote community development.

The ceremony itself was a vibrant display of unity and culture, with the couples arriving in coordinated outfits provided by the office of the governor’s wife—adding both colour and a sense of dignity to the occasion.

Officials and stakeholders have described the programme as a significant step toward reducing hardship, fostering social inclusion, and creating new opportunities for disadvantaged citizens across Jigawa State.
