Security operatives recover detonating cords, suspected cannabis, and illicit tablets during raids in Fagge and Gwale LGAs.

The Kano State Police Command has intercepted suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in two separate security operations carried out in different parts of the metropolitan local government areas of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to Kiyawa, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, executed a search warrant at a residence located in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area.

During the search, officers discovered two large sacks containing suspected incriminating materials.

A team of experts from the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit was immediately deployed to conduct professional identification and assessment of the items.

Kiyawa explained that one of the sacks contained six rolls of detonating cords, while the second sack held 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa, alongside 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Anti-Thuggery Unit of the command, while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol, intercepted a commercial tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area.

The tricycle was found to be conveying three bags containing suspected heavy materials.

The rider, identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as “Manyan Baki,” aged 49 and a native of Zamfara State, reportedly confessed to facilitating the movement of the materials from Nasarawa State to undisclosed destinations.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incidents, as efforts continue to uncover the source and intended use of the seized materials.
