Lagos: Gas Tanker Explosion Engulfs Shops, Leaves Two Dead on Lekki-Epe Expressway

Crash between tanker and tipper truck sparks massive fire, razes warehouses and businesses before firefighters contain blaze

A devastating gas explosion tore through parts of Lagos in the early hours of Saturday after a collision between a gas tanker and a tipper truck along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The accident occurred around 2:36 a.m. at Tera Ahmed Bus Stop in Sangotedo, triggering a powerful blast that ignited a raging fire. The inferno quickly spread beyond the crash site, engulfing three nearby warehouses and at least 10 roadside shops, including a gym and a generator house.

Emergency response teams from the Lekki Phase II, Oniru, and Epe II Fire Stations swiftly mobilized to the scene, deploying personnel and equipment to battle the flames. Their coordinated effort helped bring the situation under control and prevented further destruction.

Tragically, the driver of the tipper truck and his assistant lost their lives in the blaze, while the gas tanker driver escaped unharmed. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the crash and assess the full extent of the damage.
