Victim hospitalised as police investigate violent domestic dispute in Potiskum
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old housewife for allegedly mutilating her husband’s genitals with a sharp object during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred in the Potiskum Local Government Area of the state and left the victim with severe injuries.
Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, said police officers responded swiftly to a distress call and found the victim lying in a pool of blood inside his room.
“On February 6, our policemen responded to a distress call that a man was found lying in his room in a pool of blood. We immediately rushed to the house but did not meet anyone there, so we took the victim to a clinic for urgent medical attention. He was later referred to the Azare Medical Centre for further treatment,” Abdulkarim said.
According to the police, the suspect fled the scene after the incident but was later tracked and arrested.
Abdulkarim added that the victim identified his wife as the attacker; however, he has not been able to give a detailed statement due to the severity of his injuries.
“At the time the suspect fled, we could not apprehend her. She was arrested early this morning, and investigations are ongoing to determine what led to the incident and why she allegedly used a sharp object on her husband,” he stated.
