Violence Erupts in Paris After France’s World Cup Semi-Final Exit

Fires, vandalism and clashes with police reported across French cities as Spain’s 2-0 win ends Les Bleus’ title hopes

Violence flared across parts of Paris and several French cities on Tuesday night following France’s 2-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final.

Angry supporters poured into the streets after the final whistle, with reports of fires being set, property damaged and clashes breaking out between fans and security forces. Authorities responded swiftly, deploying heavy police presence to restore calm in affected areas.

The unrest came as Spain’s victory dashed France’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final. While the majority of fans dispersed peacefully, officials confirmed that pockets of violence and vandalism required immediate intervention.

French authorities have urged residents to remain calm, warning that those involved in violence or destruction of property will face legal consequences. Security agencies say they are continuing to monitor the situation closely as tensions ease.
