Aircraft develops technical fault mid-air within Nigerian airspace; LASEMA confirms no injuries or loss of lives.

A Qatar Airways aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members has made an emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, following a technical malfunction.

The emergency landing occurred after the aircraft developed a fault while flying within Nigerian airspace, forcing the pilot to land compulsorily in Lagos.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call through its toll-free emergency lines.

According to the statement, the LASEMA Response Team (LRT), alongside other emergency responders, was immediately deployed to the airport, where it confirmed that the aircraft was in distress.

“The pilot successfully executed a safe landing on the runway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with LASEMA and other emergency responders on high alert,” the statement read.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu noted that a coordinated multi-agency response was activated, ensuring swift safety procedures. After an initial assessment by the pilot and engineering crew, the aircraft was moved to the apron for a detailed inspection and necessary repairs.

“All passengers were safely evacuated. No injuries were recorded and no lives were lost,” LASEMA stated.

The agency further disclosed that despite the technical issue and emergency landing, there was no major damage to the aircraft.
