“Temporary Abstinence Is Not Sobriety” — Ned Nwoko Reacts to Regina Daniels’ Drug Test Claims

Jan 08, 2026  By Daily Observer Staff

Senator insists one negative test does not prove long-term sobriety as court battle continues

Senator Ned Nwoko has broken his silence on the growing controversy surrounding actress Regina Daniels, firmly dismissing claims that a single negative drug test result proves sobriety.

In a statement issued by his communication team, the senator stressed that “temporary abstinence is not sobriety,” warning against drawing sweeping conclusions from one test outcome amid an ongoing court case.

According to the statement, prior medical evaluations allegedly carried out at independent medical facilities in Nigeria and South Africa had indicated the use of drugs and alcohol by Regina Daniels. The team noted that these findings are already part of the evidence known in the matter.

Nwoko’s camp further explained that drug test results are not absolute and can be contested in court. They added that the judiciary has the power to appoint a neutral and credible laboratory to conduct comprehensive and independent tests to verify all claims presented by both parties.

Emphasising due process, the communication team cautioned against trial by social media, stating that legal decisions must rest on clear, credible, and verifiable evidence, not public sympathy or online narratives.

As proceedings continue, Senator Nwoko’s team urged the public to exercise restraint and allow the court to independently assess all evidence, reaffirming confidence in the judicial system to deliver a fair outcome.
