Ogogo’s Daughter Debunks Death Rumour, Says Veteran Actor Is Still Alive

Taiwo Hassan’s family dismisses viral reports of his death, days after his daughters appealed for urgent medical assistance for the actor battling stage-four cancer.

The family of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has dismissed reports that the actor has died, describing the claim circulating on social media as false.

The rumour surfaced on Tuesday, August 18, after a Facebook user claimed that one of Ogogo’s daughters, Haleemah Taiwo, had announced the actor’s death.

The post alleged that the 66-year-old actor had died after being rejected by several hospitals and claimed that he was survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.

However, Ogogo’s daughter, Lima Taiwo, quickly moved to debunk the report, urging members of the public to stop spreading what she described as fake news.

In a strongly worded post on Instagram, Lima wrote: “This is false!!!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!! THIS IS FAKE… PLEASE STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS.”

Her clarification came amid growing public concern over the actor’s health following emotional appeals by his daughters for urgent medical assistance.

On Monday, Lima disclosed in a video shared on Instagram that her father’s health had deteriorated significantly. She appealed to medical professionals, hospitals and individuals with access to cancer treatment facilities to come to the family’s aid.

Fighting back tears, she explained that the family only became aware of the seriousness of Ogogo’s condition about three weeks earlier, saying his physical appearance had initially given them little indication of the severity of his illness.

Lima also stressed that the family was not asking for financial donations, but was seeking medical assistance and access to appropriate treatment for the veteran actor.

In a separate emotional appeal, Ogogo’s other daughter, Kira Taiwo, revealed that her father was battling stage-four cancer.

Kira said the hospital currently treating the actor had informed the family that it could no longer administer chemotherapy, prompting the family to seek alternative medical options.

She appealed to hospitals, oncologists, cancer specialists and other healthcare professionals who might be able to assist the actor.

Kira also urged anyone with the capacity to help to contact either her or Lima, stressing that the family remained determined to find a way to secure further treatment for their father.

The health revelations have generated an outpouring of concern and support from fans, colleagues and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

However, despite the seriousness of his condition, Lima’s latest clarification makes it clear that reports of Ogogo’s death are false.

The family’s appeal for medical assistance remains centred on finding appropriate treatment and care for the veteran actor as he continues his battle with cancer.

Ogogo, one of the respected figures in Yoruba-language cinema, has enjoyed a long career in Nollywood and has built a strong following through his work in films and television productions.
