Long-serving Osun lawmaker barred from party primary, halting his bid for a seventh term in Obokun-Oriade Constituency
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified veteran lawmaker Wole Oke from contesting in its primary election for the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency, effectively blocking his bid for a seventh term in the House of Representatives.
Oke was screened out by the party’s screening committee when he appeared before it on Wednesday in Abuja, bringing an abrupt halt to his 24-year uninterrupted tenure in the National Assembly.
Having represented Obokun-Oriade Constituency in Osun State since 2003, Oke ranks among a small group of long-serving federal lawmakers often described as entrenched political figures.
His disqualification signals a major shift in the constituency’s political landscape, with the APC now set to field a new candidate ahead of the general elections.
