Presidency confirms rescue as details of operation remain unclear

Pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom, bringing relief to families and the wider community.

The development was confirmed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who announced the rescue in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.

“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” Onanuga stated.

While the announcement signals a positive outcome, authorities have yet to disclose critical details surrounding the operation. It remains unclear whether the victims were freed through a security rescue mission, negotiations, or the payment of ransom.

No official statement has also been issued on the condition of the rescued pupils and teachers.

The abduction had sparked concern across Oyo State and beyond, highlighting ongoing security challenges in parts of the country.

More details are expected as authorities provide further updates.
