Former Vice President warns infighting only strengthens the APC as opposition leaders rally around ADC ahead of 2027 elections.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appealed to supporters of opposition parties to halt verbal attacks against Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, warning that internal hostilities are undermining efforts to present a strong alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Atiku cautioned that persistent insults and online exchanges among supporters of opposition leaders only weaken the collective struggle and distract from issues that matter to Nigerians.

According to Atiku, divisions within the opposition camp ultimately play into the hands of the APC, which he described as the biggest beneficiary of such infighting. He stressed that attacks on either himself or Obi signal a lack of genuine commitment to the opposition cause and national interest.

“Anyone who insults Obi or Atiku does not mean well for the leaders, the Coalition ADC, and for Nigeria and Nigerians,” he wrote, urging supporters to prioritize unity, mutual respect, and shared objectives.

Atiku’s comments come amid growing political realignments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has emerged as the adopted platform for key opposition figures, including Atiku and Obi, as they seek to build a broad-based coalition capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The former vice president emphasized that public quarrels among opposition supporters risk derailing momentum, weakening public confidence, and alienating undecided voters across the country.

Political analysts note that maintaining cohesion, message discipline, and cooperation among diverse opposition factions will be critical if the ADC-led coalition hopes to position itself as a credible and united alternative to the ruling party in the next general elections.
