Delta Governor Reveals ₦503,000 Salary, Says Permanent Secretaries Earn ₦900,000

Oborevwori says workers’ welfare remains a priority as 302 public officers benefit from vehicle loans and 119 access housing loans

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has disclosed that he earns a monthly salary of ₦503,000, while Permanent Secretaries in the state receive ₦900,000 monthly.

Oborevwori made the disclosure in Asaba during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes and the presentation of official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.

The governor explained that the salaries of Permanent Secretaries were increased after they complained that some directors were earning almost as much as they were. He added that the state’s Head of Service currently earns ₦1 million monthly.

According to Oborevwori, his administration has prioritised workers’ welfare through initiatives covering official vehicles, housing and vehicle loans, agricultural support and training programmes.

He disclosed that 302 public officers had so far benefited from the state’s vehicle loan scheme, while 119 others had accessed housing loans.

The governor also said Delta State was among the first states to implement the new national minimum wage. He disclosed that his administration had approved a 13th-month salary for civil servants beginning from December.

Oborevwori said an executive bill was being prepared to provide legal backing for the 13th-month salary and ensure that the policy continues beyond his tenure.

Speaking on the appointment of Permanent Secretaries, the governor said the 12 officials appointed in May ensured that all 25 local government areas in the state had representation at that level of the civil service.

He maintained that the appointments were based on merit rather than political recommendations.

Oborevwori urged civil servants and political appointees to shun absenteeism, nepotism, waste, inefficiency, bribery and corruption.

He also appealed to beneficiaries of the newly inaugurated housing facilities to ensure that the properties were properly maintained and kept secure and clean.
