Blaze Engulfs Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, Days After Another Fire Guts Building at Computer Village, Ikeja
A major fire outbreak on Saturday evening disrupted activities at the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State, triggering an emergency response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene and were still battling the inferno as of the time of reporting. The Controller of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident and assured residents and business operators in the area that the situation was under control.
“There is no cause for panic. Our men are fully on ground and are on top of the situation,” Adeseye said.
Although no casualties had been confirmed, the full extent of the damage could not be immediately ascertained. Authorities said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, while residents were advised to keep away from the area to enable emergency teams carry out their operations without obstruction.
The incident comes barely days after another fire destroyed property worth millions of naira at a commercial building in Computer Village, Ikeja. Emergency responders managed to contain that blaze, with no loss of life recorded.
These latest incidents add to a worrying pattern of fire disasters in Lagos in recent months. Around the Christmas period, a massive inferno engulfed the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a high-rise building on Lagos Island, leading to the destruction of goods estimated to be worth billions of naira.
Authorities have reiterated the need for strict adherence to fire safety measures, especially in commercial and industrial areas, as investigations into the Mile 2 fire continue.
