Joint security operation in Patigi follows an attack on a cattle camp, with 35 stolen cows and a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle recovered.

Four suspected bandits have been killed after security forces foiled a cattle-rustling operation in Lade, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of police officers, soldiers, Forest Guards and local vigilantes following intelligence about an attack on a cattle camp in the area.

According to security sources, the incident occurred at about 10pm on Friday, September 11, when armed men reportedly invaded the cattle camp and began firing sporadically.

The attackers allegedly rustled about 40 cows before fleeing into the surrounding forest.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the combined security team mobilised to the area and pursued the suspects into the forest.

The pursuit reportedly led to a gun battle between the security operatives and the suspected bandits.

Four members of the gang were killed during the encounter, while other suspects reportedly escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

The security forces subsequently recovered 35 of the stolen cows and a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle believed to have been used by the attackers.

The operation highlights the growing importance of coordinated security efforts in rural communities, where cattle rustling and armed attacks continue to threaten residents and livestock owners.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, commended the security personnel involved in the operation for their swift response and cooperation.

He also stressed the need for continued collaboration between security agencies and local communities to prevent criminal activities, protect rural residents and safeguard livelihoods.

Security authorities are expected to sustain efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and strengthen security around vulnerable communities in the area.
