University partners BAT Ideological Group to establish institute for ideological training, leadership development and governance studies
The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, is set to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies following a partnership agreement with the BAT Ideological Group.
The initiative is designed to deepen ideological orientation and enhance political leadership development across Nigeria, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the BAT Ideological Group, Arabinrin Aderonke.
Aderonke disclosed that the agreement was reached after a high-level strategic meeting between the leadership of the BAT Ideological Group and the management of LASUSTECH.
The BAT delegation was led by the group’s convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, and included its patron, Alhaji Tejumade Onirin; Oyo State Coordinator, Prof. Fayomi Oluyemi; and Oyo State Woman Leader, Dr Bisi Alabi.
They were received by the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, alongside other principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abiodun Denloye; Registrar, David Ogungbe; Bursar, Oki Olashile; and Dean of Student Affairs, Owoeye David.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Atoyebi revealed that the group formally submitted a detailed proposal for the creation of a School of Politics and Policies. He explained that the institute is envisioned as a national centre for ideological training, political leadership formation and governance research.
He added that both parties agreed to commence academic and professional activities of the institute within the next two to three months.
According to Atoyebi, LASUSTECH has already provided a temporary facility to enable the immediate take-off of the institute, pending the construction of a permanent structure that would reflect the project’s vision, national relevance and long-term goals.
He noted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies was conceived as a response to what he described as a leadership and ideological deficit in Nigeria’s political system.
The institute, he said, will offer structured academic programmes at diploma, master’s and doctoral levels, in addition to professional certifications, fellowship programmes and ideological grooming for both emerging and established political actors.
Describing the initiative as historic, Atoyebi stated that it would be the first university-based political institution in Nigeria to be named after a sitting president. He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents “not just a political figure, but an institution of leadership, ideology and governance whose philosophy deserves academic study and institutional preservation.”
