Agency collects samples, warns residents to steer clear of affected area over possible health and environmental risks

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has launched an urgent investigation following the appearance of a mysterious white foamy substance along the busy Kaduna–Abuja Expressway.

The substance reportedly surfaced after a heavy-duty truck was involved in a road accident, raising concerns about a possible chemical spill in the area.

Officials from NESREA’s Kaduna State Field Office, led by State Coordinator Hena Dangari Emmanuel, promptly visited the scene to assess the situation. The team worked alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and local community leaders to secure the area and gather preliminary information.

According to the agency, initial observations suggest the spill may have originated from the crashed truck. Samples of the foamy substance, as well as surrounding soil and water from a nearby stream, have been collected for laboratory analysis to determine whether hazardous chemicals are involved.

NESREA has issued a public safety advisory, urging residents and motorists to avoid any contact with the substance, nearby water sources, and contaminated soil until investigations are concluded.

The agency warned that exposure could pose potential risks to human health and the environment, assuring that further updates will be provided as soon as laboratory results are available.
