Nigeria Emerges as Key Jet Fuel Supplier to Europe — German Foreign Minister

Dangote Refinery’s rising output powers Nigeria’s entry into Europe’s aviation fuel market, boosting bilateral trade prospects

Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has declared that Nigeria has rapidly emerged as one of Europe’s most significant suppliers of jet fuel, signaling a major shift in the country’s position within the global energy market.

Speaking during an official visit to Abuja, Wadephul credited the development to the expanding production capacity of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. He noted that refined aviation fuel from Nigeria is increasingly meeting Europe’s demand, particularly as the continent seeks diversified and reliable energy sources.

According to the German minister, the milestone reflects Nigeria’s growing industrial strength and its ability to compete globally in refined petroleum products — a sector long dominated by established exporters.

“This progress underscores Nigeria’s rising importance in global energy supply chains,” Wadephul said, adding that it presents new opportunities to deepen economic cooperation between both nations.

He emphasized that Germany is keen to strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria across key sectors, including energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, and renewable technologies. The development, he added, could pave the way for increased investments and long-term strategic partnerships.

Nigeria’s expanding footprint in refined fuel exports, driven largely by private-sector investment, is now positioning the country as a critical player not only in Africa but also in Europe’s energy landscape.
