Both countries seek urgent continental action to protect migrants and hold perpetrators accountable amid rising attacks on foreign nationals.

Nigeria and Ghana have agreed to escalate concerns over xenophobic attacks by pushing for the issue to be formally tabled at the next African Union (AU) Summit, amid growing reports of violence against foreign nationals across the continent.

The resolution followed high-level talks between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Both leaders called for urgent, coordinated continental action to curb xenophobia and protect African migrants living and working outside their home countries.

The ministers warned that recurring attacks on foreigners threaten the AU’s core vision of unity, regional integration, and free movement. They urged member states to move beyond rhetoric by implementing concrete measures to safeguard migrants, deepen diplomatic collaboration, and ensure perpetrators of such attacks are swiftly brought to justice.

Reaffirming strong bilateral ties, Nigeria and Ghana pledged to continue working closely to defend the rights, safety, and dignity of their citizens across Africa.
