Nigerian Air Force Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing in Benue After Technical Fault

The aircraft reportedly landed safely on farmland in Makurdi, with all occupants said to have escaped unharmed, barely a day after a fatal military aircraft crash in Ondo State.

A Nigerian Air Force aircraft has reportedly made an emergency landing on a farmland in Utur Tse-Igboji community, Makurdi, Benue State, after developing a technical fault while airborne.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, reportedly caused concern among residents who noticed the military aircraft making an unusual landing in the area.

According to preliminary reports, villagers quickly moved towards the scene after the aircraft came down on the farmland in an effort to assist the occupants.

The pilots and other occupants were reportedly able to exit the aircraft safely, with no fatalities or serious injuries reported at the time of filing this report.

The exact nature of the technical problem that forced the aircraft to make the emergency landing was not immediately clear.

The incident has nevertheless raised fresh concerns coming less than 24 hours after another Nigerian military aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The Ondo crash involved a Nigerian Air Force aircraft reportedly carrying 32 people. Authorities have confirmed the deaths of those on board, while search and recovery operations have continued at the crash site.

The latest emergency landing in Benue is therefore likely to attract heightened attention, particularly amid renewed scrutiny of the safety and operational condition of military aircraft.

Further details about the aircraft involved, the mission it was undertaking and the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing are expected from the Nigerian Air Force.

This report is based on preliminary information from residents and other reports from the scene. Official confirmation from the Nigerian Air Force is still awaited.
