Suspect allegedly confessed to abducting the child and supplying victims to the native doctor for ritual purposes.

Police in Anambra State have arrested a suspected associate of a notorious Enugu-based native doctor in connection with the abduction and murder of a six-year-old girl.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Friday Akonobi, was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu during the early hours of January 17, 2026. He is accused of playing a key role in the kidnapping and killing of six-year-old Ozioma Nwankwo, who was abducted on May 10, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Akonobi allegedly worked with four other accomplices who are currently on the run. The group reportedly acted as agents for a notorious native doctor from Enugu, Obieze Ezeani, also known as “E Dey Play” or “E Dey Show.”

Police investigations revealed that the victim was abducted from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and later taken to Enugu. During interrogation, Akonobi reportedly confessed that the group supplied young girls to the native doctor in exchange for ₦1 million per victim.

The arrest is linked to the wider criminal case involving Ezeani, who was taken into custody in May 2025 while allegedly attempting to flee the country. Authorities had earlier uncovered decomposing bodies, including that of a pregnant woman, at his residence in Enugu.

Police confirmed that the native doctor remains in custody and is awaiting trial for multiple offenses, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects connected to the crime.
