Four suspected Boko Haram terrorists were arrested after a late-night firefight in Gujba, while 11 others reportedly surrendered to troops in Yobe State between September 15 and 22.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have arrested four suspected Boko Haram terrorists following a night ambush in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, as 11 other suspected terrorists surrendered to the military within the same period.

The latest operation was carried out by troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), east of Azare Village at about 11pm on September 21, 2026.

According to the Joint Task Force, the troops encountered the suspected terrorists and engaged them in a firefight. Four suspects were subsequently arrested during a search operation conducted after the encounter.

The operation also led to the recovery of four bicycles, groceries, a sheep and spent 7.62mm Special ammunition casings.

The military said blood stains discovered at the scene suggested that some of the terrorists who fled during the encounter may have sustained gunshot wounds.

The development comes amid sustained military operations aimed at disrupting the activities and movement of Boko Haram and other armed groups operating across the North-East.

11 Terrorists Surrender

In a separate development, the Joint Task Force said 11 suspected terrorists surrendered to troops between September 15 and 22.

The surrender is part of ongoing efforts by the military to encourage members of terrorist groups to abandon their activities and submit to government authorities.

The military has continued to conduct offensive and intelligence-led operations across areas affected by insurgency, while also responding to the movement of suspected terrorists and criminal networks.

Nine Suspected Drug Dealers Arrested

Meanwhile, troops operating in Buni Yadi also arrested nine suspected drug dealers during a separate operation.

The troops recovered suspected illicit drugs, cannabis, two mobile phones and ₦85,900 in cash from the suspects.

The suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The military said the operations form part of broader efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt terrorist activities, criminal networks and other threats to security in Yobe and the wider North-East region.

The latest arrests and surrender of suspected terrorists come as security forces continue to combine offensive operations, intelligence gathering and collaboration with local security structures to tackle insurgency and other forms of criminality in the region.
