Ruling house dismisses claims of exclusion, says protest has no bearing on Awujale selection process
Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, has come under sharp criticism from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu land following a protest letter he wrote to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the ongoing selection process of the next Awujale of Ijebu land.
In the letter dated January 8, 2026, and written by his lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM1 alleged that Governor Abiodun was being deliberately sidelined in the process to select a new Awujale. He further claimed that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which is next in line to produce the monarch, had issued directives allegedly unknown to the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law.
According to the musician, the said directives were designed to disenfranchise him and prevent him from contesting for the revered stool.
However, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, has dismissed the protest letter, describing it as “arrant nonsense” with no relevance to the Awujale selection process.
Speaking in an interview, Yusuf said the letter was misguided and suggested that either KWAM1 or his lawyer was being misinformed.
“It is a misguided letter; either Wahab Shittu or Wasiu Ayinde is being misled,” Yusuf said. “The letter was addressed to the government, and the government will respond appropriately.”
He further faulted the concerns raised about the screening process, describing them as illogical.
“There are over 20,000 members in the ruling house. How does he expect us to manage such a crowd during screening?” Yusuf queried.
The ongoing process to select the next Awujale has reportedly attracted more than 60 aspirants and has generated significant public interest, especially following Ayinde’s open declaration of interest in the throne.
Amid the controversy, the Fusengbuwa family has maintained that KWAM1 is not a member of the ruling house and is therefore not qualified to participate in the selection process.
