Christian music community mourns as tributes pour in for celebrated Yoruba gospel artiste
Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Taiwo Adegbodu, one half of the iconic Adegbodu Twins, has passed away, leaving fans, colleagues, and the Christian music community in deep mourning.
The news of his death was confirmed on Sunday morning via the official Adegbodu Twins fan page on Facebook, which is managed by the duo’s management team. An emotional post announcing the loss captured the grief of those closest to him, expressing shock and heartbreak over his sudden passing.
Fellow gospel musician, Esther Igbekele, also confirmed the development in a tribute shared on her Instagram page. Posting Taiwo’s photograph, she described his death as painful and difficult to accept, bidding him a solemn farewell.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Taiwo Adegbodu and his twin brother, Kehinde, rose to prominence in the Yoruba gospel music scene following the release of their debut album, Faratimi (Lean on Me), in 1999. Over the years, the twins became widely admired for their spiritually uplifting, culturally rich songs that resonated deeply with Christian audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
Some of their most popular tracks include Shower Your Blessing, God Concert, Emi Mimo, Igbagbo Dun, Ma Beru, and Adura Mi Gba.
In recognition of their impact on gospel music and entertainment, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, appointed the Adegbodu Twins as Special Advisers on Entertainment and Tourism.
Taiwo Adegbodu’s death comes just days after the passing of another gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, further deepening the sense of loss within the gospel music community.
