Bandits Storm Kwara Church, Abduct Worshippers in Sunday Massacre

Heavily armed assailants invaded a Sunday service in Oro-Ago community, fleeing with nine victims before security operatives rescued three—amid intelligence warnings of coordinated attacks on three local government areas.

Suspected bandits invaded a church in Oro-Ago community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Sunday, abducting at least nine worshippers during a morning service.

Heavily armed assailants stormed the church premises without resistance, sources said, sending residents and congregants fleeing for safety. Nine people were forcefully taken to an unknown destination.

“Nine people were kidnapped today and whisked away by the assailants,” a community source confirmed.

Security operatives have since rescued three of the victims, though authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident or the ongoing rescue operation. The attack has plunged the Oro-Ago community into fear and confusion, with residents demanding urgent security intervention.

The assault comes just days after intelligence agencies placed security forces on high alert over planned coordinated attacks in Kwara South. In a statement issued Saturday, Joint Security Watch Coordinator Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair warned that suspected terrorists were preparing to strike simultaneously on March 23 and March 28, 2026, targeting Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin Local Government Areas.

Security operatives across the affected areas have since intensified precautionary measures, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
