FIFA Opens Disciplinary Probe into Argentina After World Cup Final Chaos

Players, officials face scrutiny over confrontations following 1-0 extra-time loss to Spain

FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against Argentina after chaotic scenes marred the aftermath of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, which ended in a 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain.

The world football governing body confirmed it is investigating multiple incidents involving Argentine players and officials, including alleged unsporting conduct, confrontations with match officials, and violations of post-match disciplinary regulations.

Tensions reportedly boiled over immediately after the final whistle, with emotions running high following Argentina’s narrow loss. Reports indicate that heated exchanges and on-field altercations prompted FIFA to step in and review the conduct of those involved.

If found guilty, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) could face a range of sanctions, including financial penalties and other disciplinary measures, depending on the severity of the breaches established during the investigation.

FIFA has yet to provide a timeline for the conclusion of the process. Argentina is expected to formally respond to the allegations as part of the disciplinary procedure.
