Brazil thrash Haiti 3-0 as Paraguay edge Türkiye 1-0, sealing early exits for both nations
Haiti and Türkiye have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering their second consecutive defeats in the group stage on Friday, ending their hopes of progressing to the knockout rounds.
In Philadelphia, United States, five-time world champions Brazil defeated Haiti 3-0 in a Group C clash to confirm the Caribbean nation’s exit.
Matheus Cunha scored twice for Brazil, while Vinícius Júnior added a third before halftime to seal a dominant and comfortable victory.
The result left Haiti rooted to the bottom of the group with no points from two matches and a goal difference of minus four. Their final group fixture against Morocco on June 24 will have no bearing on qualification.
In Group D, Türkiye also bowed out following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Paraguay at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. Matías Galarza struck after just 64 seconds, registering the fastest goal of the 2026 tournament and handing Paraguay a crucial win.
Despite mounting pressure in search of an equaliser and benefiting from a late red card to Paraguay, Türkiye were unable to break through.
The loss leaves them without a point after two matches, confirming their early exit from the competition.
While Paraguay keep their qualification hopes alive ahead of a decisive final group game against Australia, Haiti’s return to the World Cup for the first time since 1974 ends in disappointment. Türkiye’s campaign also falls short of expectations despite entering the tournament with high hopes.
