The road safety agency also prohibits the use of patrol vehicles and sirens for political activities, weddings and funeral processions, directing officers at campaign venues to focus strictly on traffic management.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has barred its personnel from providing escorts to politicians during campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning officers against using government resources for political and private engagements.

The directive was issued by the Zonal Commanding Officer of RS6, ACM Abimbola Owolabi, during her maiden visit to the Cross River State Command in Calabar on Wednesday.

Owolabi made it clear that FRSC patrol vehicles and sirens must not be deployed to serve the interests of politicians or individuals during private events, including weddings and funeral processions.

The directive reinforces the agency’s position that its operational resources should be used strictly for official road safety duties rather than personal convenience or political activities.

She also instructed officers assigned to campaign venues to concentrate exclusively on traffic management, with particular emphasis on preventing congestion and reducing the risk of road traffic crashes.

According to the directive, personnel deployed to political gatherings are expected to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and protect road users, rather than participate in activities outside their official responsibilities.

With political activities expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the FRSC’s directive underscores the importance of maintaining professionalism, neutrality and discipline among its personnel.

The restriction also seeks to ensure that public resources are not diverted from essential road safety operations at a time when campaign rallies and other political gatherings could place additional pressure on traffic management.

The FRSC is responsible for promoting road safety, enforcing traffic regulations and helping to prevent crashes on Nigerian roads. Its personnel are therefore expected to prioritise the safety of motorists, passengers and other road users during public events.

The directive signals a clear warning to officers against the misuse of official vehicles, sirens and other operational resources for political or private purposes.
