
Suspects arrested across Oyo State for separate offences as police vow thorough investigation and prosecution
The men of the Nigerian Police Officers, Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with separate criminal cases involving alleged defilement, murder, and unlawful possession of human remains across the state.
The arrests were announced in a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended at different locations in Oyo State following reports of serious criminal offences. Ayanlade said the police acted swiftly on credible intelligence and complaints received from members of the public.
One of the suspects, identified as Usman Azeez, was arrested in Ado Awaye over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual activity with the minor while she was fetching water from a nearby river. The police spokesperson said Azeez is currently in custody and has reportedly confessed to the offence. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court in accordance with the law.
In a separate incident reported at the Tede Police Division, Abdulraheem Koni was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his former employer, Lateef Giwa. Police findings indicated that a disagreement between the suspect and the deceased escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the victim sustained fatal injuries. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
The command also confirmed the arrest of Lawal Ibrahim in Ibadan over another murder case. Ayanlade explained that the suspect allegedly attacked Raimi Ige during an altercation, inflicting fatal injuries with a broken bottle. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead while being conveyed for treatment. The body has since been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Additionally, police operatives attached to the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a commercial vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Guru Maharaji Village. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be human remains concealed among passengers’ luggage.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, who was traveling from Lagos to Osogbo, was immediately arrested. He is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the recovered items.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice, while urging residents to continue to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
