Afrobeats star urges voters to shun violence and turn out en masse as August 15 governorship election approaches

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on residents of Osun State to embrace peace and civility ahead of the August 15 governorship election, while openly backing Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election.

Speaking during a press conference in Osogbo as part of a youth mobilisation campaign, the singer expressed confidence in the governor’s chances of securing a second term. Davido, who is related to the governor, described Adeleke as one of the state’s most impactful leaders, pointing to what he called notable achievements in governance and development.

He urged eligible voters to come out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights, emphasizing that the outcome of the election should be determined through the ballot box rather than violence or intimidation.

Davido also appealed to political actors and their supporters across party lines to maintain peace before, during and after the election, stressing the need for a credible and transparent electoral process.

The governorship poll is expected to draw significant attention as political parties intensify campaigns across the state.
