Armed assailants storm Ayegunle Bunu in Kabba-Bunu LGA, seize residents and travellers, raising fresh concerns over insecurity along Kogi–Kwara border corridors
Suspected armed attackers have invaded Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting more than 30 residents and travellers in a coordinated pre-dawn assault.
The attack reportedly occurred around 2:25 a.m. on Monday when the armed group stormed the community and operated for several minutes without resistance, according to local sources.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the victims include both residents of Ayegunle Bunu and passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted as it passed through the area. Several occupants of the bus were among those taken away during the raid.
Sources further confirmed that one person was killed during the invasion, while another sustained injuries. The injured victim is said to be receiving attention, though details of their condition remain unclear.
The incident has triggered renewed concern among residents over the growing vulnerability of rural communities in Kogi State, particularly along travel routes connecting neighbouring areas and border corridors with Kwara State. In recent times, such routes have increasingly become targets for armed groups, heightening fear among commuters and local populations.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident or confirm rescue efforts, but security concerns are expected to intensify following the latest attack.
